The Axial Capra 1.9 stands as one of the most capable rock crawlers to come out of Axial's UTB, or Unlimited Truck Build, platform, designed from the ground up for serious rock crawling and bashing performance. Riding on portal axles that boost ground clearance and torque delivery right at the wheel hubs, this 1/10 scale crawler tackles boulders, ledges, and technical terrain that would stop lesser rigs cold. The chassis geometry allows for massive amounts of suspension articulation, letting each wheel independently follow the contours of uneven ground while keeping the tires planted for maximum traction. Riding on 1.9 inch wheels wrapped in aggressive crawling tires, the Capra delivers the kind of grip and stability that scale crawling enthusiasts demand when navigating obstacle courses or natural rock gardens. Underneath its rugged exterior, the Capra 1.9 features a straightforward yet durable drivetrain built around a steel center differential and shafts designed to handle the stress of low-speed, high-torque crawling situations. The link suspension setup, paired with adjustable shocks, gives hobbyists the ability to fine-tune ride height, dampening, and articulation to match specific terrain or personal driving style. Axial equipped the truck with a capable waterproof electronics package in most kit variants, including a brushed motor and ESC combo that's tuned for the low-end grunt crawling requires rather than outright speed. The body styling draws heavily from real-world off-road trucks and rock bouncers, giving the Capra an aggressive, purpose-built look with functional elements like integrated tube bumpers and rock sliders that double as scale aesthetics and actual protection during hard hits. What makes the Capra 1.9 particularly appealing to the RC crawling community is its balance of out-of-box performance and near-limitless upgrade potential. The UTB chassis was engineered with hop-up parts and aftermarket support in mind, so hobbyists can swap in aluminum links, upgraded shocks, brass weights for better balance, or a hotter motor as their skills and ambitions grow. Whether it's offered as a Kit version for builders who want to assemble and customize from scratch, or as an RTR ready-to-run model for those wanting to hit the trail immediately, the Capra 1.9 has earned a reputation as a benchmark crawler that rewards both patient technical driving and mechanical tinkering. For anyone serious about scale rock crawling, this Axial model remains a go-to platform that blends realistic looks, genuine off-road capability, and long-term hobby engagement.
Customer reviews
The articulation on this thing is insane. Straight out of the box it climbed obstacles my old rig couldn't touch. Upgraded the tires and it's unstoppable now.
Chassis flex and portal axles are fantastic for technical terrain. Stock tires are the weak link though, swapped them out immediately and performance doubled.
Performance wise this crawler is superb, handles rock gardens with ease. Cracked the body panel on a rollover though, wish it were more impact resistant.
Love taking this out on scale trail adventures. The long travel shocks soak up everything and the AR44 axles have taken a beating without failing.
